In a production setting, we bond the grass tufts to the backing using heavy-duty Polyurethane or Latex backing systems<\/a>. These materials are tough, but they are sensitive to temperature changes. A steam cleaner might kill bacteria, but the 100\u00b0C steam will make the backing ripple, creating "waves" in your floor that you can never flatten out again. Similarly, "industrial strength" degreasers often contain solvents that turn the backing brittle. Always check the label for "pH-neutral" or "Turf-Safe" before you start.
