Mengapa Lantai Vinyl Saya Menggelembung?

Each cause leaves a slightly different clue, and figuring out which one you have will save you time and money. Trapped air or poor bonding usually shows up soon after installation, in small, localized bumps — this happens when adhesive was not spread evenly, the open time was wrong, or the floor was not pressed down properly with a roller. Moisture is the more serious culprit. It can come from below, through a concrete subfloor that has not met the flooring’s moisture limits, or from above, when water seeps into seams from a spill or a leaky appliance. Insufficient conditioning before installation can also cause problems later, though how much conditioning is actually needed depends heavily on the product — more on that below. Direct sunlight and temperature swings cause vinyl to expand and contract, and if it does not have room to move, it can tent or buckle. Finally, debris or uneven patches under the floor can physically push a flexible sheet or plank up from below — though this is often better described as a hard bump or telegraphing than a true bubble.

Jenis

Seperti Apa Penampilannya/Rasanya

Kemungkinan Penyebab

Gelembung / lepuh

Once you have a reasonable idea of what caused your bubble — and what type of vinyl you’re working with — you’re in a much better position to pick the right fix instead of guessing.

This technique is intended mainly for fully adhered sheet vinyl, not floating click-lock planks. Gently warm the area with a hairdryer to make the vinyl a little more flexible, then puncture the center of the bubble with a fine needle. Press the trapped air out through the hole, then use a syringe to introduce a small amount of vinyl adhesive underneath, following the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions. Place a heavy, flat object like a stack of books on top and leave it for 24 hours so the adhesive can cure.

Metode B: Panas Ringan untuk Bagian yang Sedikit Menonjol

Gentle heat can sometimes soften flexible vinyl and make a small repair easier, but it should not be assumed to reliably "reactivate" the original adhesive — vinyl flooring uses several adhesive types, and not all of them respond to heat the same way. A hairdryer on a low setting is generally safer than a heat gun, which can scorch, discolor, or distort the wear layer if used too aggressively. Always check the flooring and adhesive manufacturer’s repair guidance first, and go slowly.

Metode C: Memeriksa Celah Ekspansi pada Lantai Vinyl Apung

If the raised area looks more like tenting along a wall, and you have floating click-lock LVP or SPC, the floor may be pinned with no room to expand. Remove the baseboard and check whether a perimeter expansion gap has been maintained — the required size varies by product, often somewhere in the range of 3/16 to 5/16 inch (roughly 5–8 mm), so check your specific product’s installation instructions rather than assuming a standard figure. If the gap is missing or too small, trim the edge of the flooring to restore it. Note that fully adhered sheet vinyl and glue-down LVT often follow different perimeter requirements, and some glue-down products don’t require this gap at all.

These methods handle a large share of the bubbles I see reported. But not every bubble is a simple air pocket, and treating a water-damaged plank the same way you’d treat a small air bubble will only make the problem worse.

Kapan Perbaikan Sendiri Tidak Cukup untuk Mengatasi Gelembung pada Lantai Vinyl?

A soft, spongy feel, discoloration, or a musty smell can point to moisture underneath the flooring, but visible symptoms alone can’t confirm it. On concrete subfloors, proper diagnosis often calls for a moisture test such as ASTM F2170 relative humidity testing.

If a bubble feels soft or spongy, or you notice discoloration or an odor, moisture is a reasonable suspicion — but concrete subfloor moisture issues don’t always announce themselves clearly. Sometimes there’s no obvious smell or visible water at all, just early adhesive softening or a slow-forming blister. That’s why, for anything beyond a very minor, clearly air-related bump, it’s worth confirming with a proper moisture test rather than relying on touch and smell alone.

One thing I always tell clients: if subfloor moisture is the underlying issue, the source needs to be corrected and the subfloor needs to meet the flooring and adhesive manufacturer’s moisture limits before anything new goes down. If it doesn’t meet those limits, a compatible moisture-mitigation system, not just a generic "moisture barrier," may be required.

Prevention comes down to following the manufacturer’s conditioning instructions, proper subfloor prep, meeting moisture limits, correct expansion gaps where applicable, and managing intense sun exposure in the room.

A few habits make a real difference here. There is no single universal "acclimation period" for all vinyl flooring — some sheet vinyl products don’t require formal acclimation at all, while some glue-down LVT and rigid-core products call for 24 to 48 hours or more of conditioning. Always follow the specific manufacturer’s instructions for your product rather than assuming a fixed number of hours. Make sure the subfloor is completely clean, level, and dry before installation, since even small debris under a flexible sheet can telegraph through as a bump later. Verify that the subfloor meets the flooring and adhesive manufacturer’s moisture limits before installation, using proper testing on concrete rather than a visual check. For floating floors, leave the manufacturer-specified expansion gap around the room’s perimeter, and cover it with baseboard or trim rather than skipping it. In rooms with large sun-exposed windows or floor-to-ceiling glazing, consider blinds or window film to reduce intense heat buildup, since strong, sustained sun exposure is a common, often-overlooked contributor to buckling near windows.

For some fully adhered sheet vinyl or linoleum installations, a small blister may be repairable by releasing the trapped air and re-bonding the area. Linoleum and vinyl are different materials with different backings and adhesives, though, so it’s worth checking the specific manufacturer’s repair procedure before assuming the same method applies. A fine needle is safer than cutting with a knife, which often widens the damage and leaves a visible seam.

Berapa lama waktu yang dibutuhkan agar lantai vinil baru benar-benar stabil?

There is no single settling period that applies to every product. Follow the flooring manufacturer’s conditioning and installation guidance for your specific vinyl type. If a raised area or bubble is still present, growing, or appears after installation, it’s worth investigating the cause rather than assuming it will resolve on its own.

Have a vinyl flooring issue you’re trying to diagnose, or a project that needs custom or bulk manufacturing support?
